Amrita students’ drive to succeed manifested yet again at recent academic and sporting events conducted by universities in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The team from Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore won second place in a national-level quiz contest conducted by the Association of Indian Universities and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
The event consisted of six rounds of questions on history, politics, entertainment and geography, including audio and visual rounds. Amrita team members included Aditya Sriram Sankaran, final-year B.Tech. student of Electronics and Communications Engineering, Anjan S., third-year B.Tech. student of Chemical Engineering and B. Sachin, third-year B.Tech. student of Mechanical Engineering.
“Quiz questions reflected the national character of the competition,” stated Anjan S. “Since topics pertained to different parts of India, no team had any regional advantages.”
“The competition was challenging; participating universities as zonal winners, represented the best of the country,” added B. Sachin.
“The event was very encouraging for us. It helped us get more exposure, and hopefully we will participate in more events like this in the future,” the students underlined.
A separate group of Amrita students won third place, receiving a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 at a basketball tournament hosted by the Vellore Institute of Technology.
The same team of students also came in third again, winning another Rs. 1,000, this time at a state-level tournament organized at SSK College in Coimbatore.
“I feel very proud of the students and the hard work they have put in,” stated A.V. Muthukumar, physical instructor at Amrita, Coimbatore, who guided the team in its success.
“We are preparing hard for the south zonal inter-university tournament in December 2011 and expect to do even better,” he added.
