Amrita Student Team Emerges as 2nd Runner-up in IEEE Asia-Pacific Region Humanitarian Technology Conference (HTC) Innovation Challenge

A student team from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore campus emerged as 2nd runner-up in the IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific region) Humanitarian Technology Conference (HTC) 2024 Innovation Challenge held at Royal Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 1 October 2024. This innovation challenge is an international project competition designed to inspire creative solutions for societal and humanitarian challenges from IEEE. There were 75+ project submissions from various universities all over the Asia-Pacific region including from China, Australia, and Japan. The award presentation to the AMRITA team was done by Prof. Lance Chun Chee Fung, IEEE Region 10 director and Emeritus Professor of Murdoch University, Perth, Australia. The jury panel was chaired by Ms. Emi Yano, Ricoh IT Solutions, Tokyo, Japan, who chairs the IEEE R10 Humanitarian Technology Activities (HTA) Committee.

Amrita student team demonstrated the basic prototype of their innovation, EduFrenzy, an innovative multilingual online learning platform designed to bridge the educational gap for underserved communities. This platform, when completely developed, will offer localized and culturally relevant content, multilingual support, and comprehensive community engagement tools, with curated courses across various domains, financial support integration, and offline access to educational materials.

In the past, Amrita researchers have published several research papers at this premier conference. In 2019, an Amrita student team from the Coimbatore campus won the project competition for their Virtual Reality (VR) game to reduce lower back pain, when the event was held in Indonesia.
