Department of Pharmaceutics, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi, conducted a Webinar on Innovation and Sustainability by Dr. Tathagatta Dutta, Pharmaceutical Scientist on January 13, 2023. Dr. Dutta started the webinar by highlighting the significance of sustainability for creating a better future for the next generations. The only way to survive in this time is innovation. He introduced the audience about the significance of conscious consumerism. Conscious consumerism in health care is the need for awareness among all stake holders regarding the safety and health of the patient. It also pertains to a win-win situation in which both the manufacturer and the consumer are satisfied with the regard to the pricing of pharmaceutical products. Further Dr. Dutta described the need and type of innovations in terms of pharmaceutical product development. He also highlighted the top 10 global issues in the world and the need of innovation to solve these issues as an urgent need. Studies show that an organization which follows sustainable development goals is 2.5 more likely to be successful than others. Reskilling of employees, waste reduction, digital organization, net zero emission and using resource consciously are the way forward for Innovation and Sustainability

One of the key highlights of the webinar was Dr. Dutta’s discussion on the role of technology in promoting sustainability in the pharmaceutical industry. He discussed how advancements in technology such as digitalization and automation can help reduce waste and increase efficiency in the production process. He also talked about the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the development of new drugs and how it can lead to more sustainable and environmentally friendly drug discovery processes.
