IEEE-PES& IAS, student branch joint chapter of Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, organized a one day workshop with hands-on session on “Solar 360 : Electrical” on October 22, 2016. The event was co-ordinated by Dr. K. Deepa, Convener, Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, ASE, and was organized by IEEE Members. The workshop included a crowd of 40 IEEE members and 81 non-IEEE members. The workshop was conducted in three sessions.
The first session was taken up by Dr. Deepa K., Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, and included an introduction to solar energy and its utility in real life, as well as how the energy estimation is done. The second session was presented by Mr. Ronaldo, alumnus of ASE, who at present is working in BOSCH as a hardware engineer. His session included the construction of solar panels and the parameters which are taken into consideration before their construction.
The third session was about MATLAB and featured a live demonstration of its interfacing with a solar panel. This also included the construction of buck-boost converter using MATLAB software. The event was informative, authentic and useful. It helped in creating an awareness about the different aspects relating to the electrical field. It also encouraged the young minds to come up with unique ideas and implement them in real life.
