The Department of Management, Amritapuri Campus, inaugurated its 9th MBA batch on 19th June, 2017. The event was called “Shuhabrambh”. Sampoojya Swami Amritageethanda Puri, Senior Disciple of Sadguru Mata Amritanandamayi Devi and the Head of Mata Amritandamayi Math, Bengaluru, presented the benedictory address to the students. The chief guest of the ceremony was Mr. Rajesh Nair, Director of Markets, Ernst & Young, Kochi and Tamil Nadu Region. Mr. Rajesh is also the President of “The Indus Entrepreneurs” (TiE) – Kerala Chapter. Dr. Sushil Kumar, Head of Placements of MBA program presided over the program. Prof. Rajiv Nair represented the Department of Management of Amritapuri Campus.
The ceremony began with an auspicious lamp-lighting followed by a recital of prayer by Amrit Kiran (Second year MBA student). Prof. Avinash Shivadas, Department of Management, Amritapuri Campus, delivered the welcome address in which he remarked about the need for developing strong foundations and the importance of having Vitamin G – the Grace, which guides us constantly.
Dr. V. S. Somanath, Dean of Amirta School of Business and Chairperson of the Department of Management at Amritapuri Campus, had sent a very warm welcome message in the form of an audio, to the students, from United States,. He could not be present at the occasion as he is accompanying the Chancellor of Amrita, Sadguru Sri Mata Amritanadamayi Devi on her tour of the United States. In his address, Dr. Somanath stressed on the importance of ethics and values in decision making and the need to have the right mindset to adapt to unexpected situations of both corporate and personal life. The Dean also pointed out on the importance of efforts required from the students in utilizing various resources and opportunities that come their way to expand the horizons of knowledge.
Sampoojya Swami Amritageethanda Puri, in his address, mentioned the need to manage ourselves before we manage others. Swamiji defined MBA as Mind and Body towards Amma and explained the condition of human MIND as My Innocent Naughty Daughter. Swamiji stressed the relevance of epics like Ramayana to future managers and the need to strike the right balance between the head and heart when both are in conflict. Swamiji also pointed out that Amma’s solution to any problem is always so concrete and absolute.
In his address, the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajesh Nair, touched upon the three most important words in English -Faith, Hope and Care and their relevance. The next keynote address was delivered by Dr. Susil Kumar Head of Placements, MBA program. Dr. Susil took the audience through the concept of CIR – the Corporate and Industrial Relations at Amrita, its goals and the need to equip oneself to get quality placements. Prof. Rajiv Nair in his address remarked that apart from Army, Amrita is the only Institution which offers an education for life. He stressed on the need for taking responsibility for our own actions, how to act with discrimination to excel in the management of life and the importance of Ethics in Management. Prof. Maheshwar Pratap, Chair Admissions, Department of Management, Amritapuri Campus delivered the vote of thanks.
The day’s proceedings were concluded with a special address by the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajesh Nair, on “Understanding the Future- from a Management Student’s Perspective”. Mr. Rajesh took the students through the changing business landscape with the emphasis on knowledge sectors and Make in Kerala Initiatives. He also remarked about the need for understanding the foundations of business and how refusing to accept the status quo can be beneficial. To wrap up the session, Mr. Rajesh Nair pointed out to the students that, “Today is the beginning of the rest of your life,” and wished them an auspicious beginning.
