Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham faculty member, Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Research Director, Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda, Amrita School of Ayurveda, was invited to deliver a talk titled, “From Bench to Bedside: Research on Cancer in Ayurveda at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham”, on May 23, 2017, at the National Cancer Institute, Shady Grove, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.
In his talk, Dr. Ram Manohar elaborated the initiative at Amrita School of Ayurveda, Kollam, in collaboration with Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, to develop protocols for Integrative Oncology. The potential areas for Ayurvedic interventions were primary prevention, secondary prevention, post chemotherapy/radiation rehabilitation, adjuvant therapy during chemotherapy/radiation, combined therapy and palliative care.
He interacted with Dr. Pushpa Tandon, Dr. Julia Arnold, Dr. Shankar Gupta, Dr. Jeffrey White and others at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). NCI expressed an interest to study potential Ayurvedic formulations on NCI 64 Cancer Cell Lines and also to archive interesting case reports in the NCI Best Case Series protocol.
Dr. Jeffrey White also participated as an Invited Speaker at Amrita Samyogam 2017 – International Conference on Integrative Ayurveda and Modern Medicine, which was held at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences on 6th and 7th August, 2017.
