A special Carnatic Violin concert led by Mysore Brothers was conducted at Amriteshwari Hall, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus on July 28, 2016 . This highly successful event was co-organized by Samskriti, the cultural wing of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus and SPIC MACAY, the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth.
Mysore Brothers, Dr. Mysore Nagaraj and Dr. Mysore Manjunath, are widely regarded as the leading violinists from India today, performing music rich in soulful imagination and virtuosity. They were joined by Mridangam maestro Pandit Arjunkumar and the talented Uduppi Sreekanth on ganjira, giving an unforgettable music evening to the audience which included students, staff, faculty and international guests.
These amazingly gifted Violin Maestros, the sons and disciples of renowned violinist Prof. Mahadevappa, were child prodigies who matured quickly to emerge as the top ranking violinists in India today. Their exceptional musical talents were first revealed at the very tender age of 8 when they stormed into the music world sweeping all music lovers and critics off their feet by extraordinary musical acumen. They are among the youngest musicians to be awarded A-Top Ranking and honored with the prestigious Rajyothsava Award by the Government of Karnataka. From Royal Albert Hall to Sydney Opera house, from Common Thread Music Festival in USA to Federation Square in Melbourne, Mysore Brothers have enthralled audiences all over the world. They have developed a unique style blending emotive appeal, technical mastery and intellectual sophistication with a strict adherence to classicism.
Amritapuri Campus was privileged to experience the substance, creativity and quality of their music. Mysore Brothers successfully demonstrated the greatness of Indian Classical music in improvisation with emphasis on the creativity of performers, rather than on the exact reproduction of a composer’s work, as in Western Classical music. Together with renowned artistes Pandit Arjunkumar and Uduppi Sreekanth, they orchestrated an incredible music exchange, full of creativity and playfulness, while maintaining great discipline and spiritual awareness. No wonder the entire audience was transported by their magnificent way of taking Carnatic music to a whole new level. Cheers and thunderous applause filled the entire hall. Everyone present was deeply impressed by the connecting power and the rich heritage of Indian Classical music, brought by Mysore Brothers in full glory.
