Dr. Krishnakumar R., Associate Professor, Spine Division, Department of Orthopaedics, Amrita School of Medicine, has described a new clinical sign in orthopaedics and spine termed “Sternum into Abdomen Deformity” which was published in the Spine Journal- an internationally leading journal. The term “sternum-into-abdomen deformity” is descriptive of resultant severe kyphosis with a prominent abdominal wall crease from sternal/lower rib cage pressure on the abdomen, causing gastrointestinal dysfunction severe enough to cause weight loss. The co-author of this publication is Prof. Dr. Lawrence G. Lenke, a renowned spine specialist who classified scoliosis.
