Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, hosted a student outreach program on behalf of Amrita Networking Club to make students aware of concepts of networking. Students and teachers from The Kendriya Vidyalaya, DRDO branch were invited to attend the event. A total of 42 students of PUC 2nd year and 4 teachers attended the event with great interest.
V.N. Srilasya, Department of Electronics and Communication and Lakshmi Pavani of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, escorted them to the e-learning hall where the event was held. Professor Ullas, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Marketing Manager of Amrita, Mr. Sukumaran, and Cisco Instructor Mrs. Praveena P. Kini of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering also accompanied them.
The session started with the welcome note of T.V. Satyanarayana of the Department of Electronics and Communication. The first session was handled by M. Lakshmi Pavani on Internet of Things (IOT). She gave examples of the practical, everyday use of IOT. She also screened a video on IOT to emphasize its need in the future. A video on smart home technologies also was screened during the morning session. The next talk was an interactive session by Prof. Ullas S., Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru, who expertly explained the basic concepts of networking.
During the afternoon session, there was an interactive talk on communication protocols by T.V Satyanarayana. The students were able to understand the importance of each of the protocols after the session. This was succeeded by Mr. Sukumaran’s motivational talk in which he inspired the students saying, “Follow your own passion and don’t go by your friend’s passion or that of your parent’s.” He also informed them about various branches of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the courses they offer and gave a detailed explanation on what made Amrita stand 1st among the private universities of India.
Later, quiz papers were distributed to the students to test their understanding of the topics. The students performed well and two of them scored 100%. After the quiz session, the ECIF club coordinated a visit for the students to the CISCO lab, Electronic Circuits lab and Digital Systems lab where the equipment was explained.
The students and the faculty members returned to the e-learning hall and mementos were presented to Mrs. Hema R. and Mrs. Aruna D. Ekanath of the Department of Computer Science; Mr. E. N. Kannan, Department of Physics, and Mr. Ishpal Singh, Department of Chemistry. The students who showed their excellence in the quiz were also given mementos. With a vote of thanks by Lakshmi Pavani, all the students were taken for a group photograph and with that the event came to an end. The event was a great success thanks to everyone’s participation. It inspired the club to organise more such events.
