Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine’s faculty member and research students won various awards at the 11th Asia Pacific Chitin and Chitosan Symposium and the 5th Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society Symposium organised by Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society and Marshall Marine Products, from September 28-30, 2016, at IMA House, Cochin, India.
Dr. R. Jayakumar, Professor, Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, received the Best Faculty Researcher Awardfor his outstanding contribution towards chitin/chitosan research.
Deepthi Sankar, PhD student at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, received the Best Student Researcher Award for the year 2015-2016. Her presentation was titled, “Chitin/Chitosan based Matrices for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine’”.
Annapoorna Mohandas, PhD student, at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, who presented her work titled, “Nanocurcumin Incorporated Chitosan-Arginine Composite Injectable Hydrogel for the Enhancement of Angiogenesis in Hind-limb Ischemia” received Best Oral Presentation Award at the Symposium.
A. Sivashanmugham, PhD student, received the Best Poster Presentation Award for his work titled “Injectable Nanocomposite Hydrogels for Craniofacial Bone Defects”.
Gaurav Baranwal, PhD student, received the Best Poster Presentation Award for his work entitled “Treatment of Staphylococcus aureusInfection Using Chitosan-PRP Nano Tigecycline Composite Hydrogel in Drosophila Melanogaster Model”.
Chitin and Chitosan Society was initiated in 2009. It mainly focuses in promoting cutting edge technological advancements in areas that involve chitin, chitosan and its derivatives. Indian Chitin and Chitosan Society organize national conferences and workshops every year. The Chitin and Chitosan Society aims at creating a link between researchers and industry personnel to bring better scientific developments to this field. Life time achievement award for senior faculty and best researcher award for research students are awarded every year to honour their extraordinary research contribution and to motivate good quality research work in the field of chitin and chitosan research.
