The school-level Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and school-level Research Committee in association with the Department of Computer Science of  Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus, organized a webinar on Machine Learning V/S Deep Learning, When and How to Use on December 12, 2020, for research scholars, faculties and PG students of the department. The main aim of this webinar was to make participants understand the difference between machine learning and deep learning algorithms and their usages in different real time applications.

Dr. Dinesh R., Principal Engineer, Samsung Electro Mechanics, Bengaluru, was the resource person of the webinar. He began the session with a detailed explanation of the difference between Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Proceeding further, he spoke about the different types of learning like supervised, unsupervised, semi supervised and reinforcement learning, the challenges of machine learning and how deep learning algorithms can overcome these challenges. Later Dr. Dinesh explained the architecture of deep learning models, convolutional neural network (CNN), types of CNN like AlexNet, VGGNet, LenNet, ResNet and so on. He also made sure to cover how to design a deep learning model, the advantages of deep learning, the challenges and steps to overcome them. At the end of his presentation, he gave a lot of ideas to the participants to work on many real time applications and also presented many research problems which greatly helped the budding research scholars.

Overall, the session was very interactive and very useful to the 50 participants.
