Realizing that community-based activities play a huge role in the learning and skill development of student-teachers in the field of teacher education, the Department of Education, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru campus, conducted a Community-Related Activities – Camp 2019, in a nearby underprivileged locality, Nanjarajanakatte, Roopa Nagara village, Bogadi, Mysuru., from April 26-27, 2019.
Shri. Chandrashekhar, ward member, Grama panchayath, Bogadi, Mysuru, was the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the event. The activities included gathering ethnographic details from the localities, cleaning the premises of the school, organizing a free medical camp in association with Amrita Kripa Hospital & conducting an awareness campaign on health & hygiene. The objective of the program was to study the status of socio-economic empowerment, status of self-employment, the problems & challenges faced by people of Nanjarajanakatte, to create awareness related to self-employment program among men and women, to study the need for personal financial investment in the business, economic fluctuations, to create awareness regarding self-employment schemes, opportunities provided by government, to create awareness about cleanliness and education. A group of forty students and teachers were guided and supervised by Dr. Rethy B.Menon and D. Puttaswamy in the conduct of community-based events.
