The Department of Head & Neck Surgery, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, in association with Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology, conducted a live thyroid surgery workshop during June 3-5, 2016, at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. The theme for the meeting was “Surgical approaches to the thyroid – what to choose?”. All surgical approaches to the thyroid, including endoscopic and robotic procedures were demonstrated. Dr. Yun Woo Koh, Professor, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Yonsei Head and Neck Cancer Center, Seoul, Korea and Dr. Kyung Tae, Professor, Department of Otolaryngology-HNS, College of Medicine, Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea; Dr. Tran Ngoc Luong, Director, National Hospital of Endocrinology, Vietnam and Dr. Pahn Hoang from Vietnam were the international faculty. They were also assisted by a surgical team including Ms. Hyejin Kim and Dahyee Lee from South Korea.
The national faculty included Dr. Madan Kapre, Professor, ENT/ HNS, Neeti Clinic, Nagpur; Dr. Surendra Dabas, Consultant, Surgical Oncology, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, New Delhi; Dr. Deepak Abraham, Consultant, Head and Neck Surgery, CMC, Vellore; Dr. Umakant Nayak, Professor, Head and Neck Surgery, Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad; Dr. Mandar Despande, Consultant, Head and Neck Surgery, Kokila Ben Hospital, Mumbai; Dr. Prathamesh Pai, Professor, Head and Neck Surgery, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai; Dr. Shamit Chopra, Consultant, Head and Neck Surgery, Patel Hospital, Jalandhar and Dr. Subramania Iyer, Professor and Head, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery/Head and Neck Surgery-Oncology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences.
The live surgeries were moderated by the national faculty. The international faculty also gave lectures justifying their approaches. There was also a panel moderated by Dr. Krishnakumar Thankappan, Professor, Head and Neck Surgery-Oncology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. The meeting was attended by over 150 delegates from different parts of the country.
