The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore organised a national level workshop on Soft Computing Techniques with the support of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) from July 17-18, 2015. The objective of the workshop was to make B.Tech. and M.Tech. students learn to apply soft computing techniques easily in their project work.
Dr. P.N. Kumar, IETE Chairman, Coimbatore Center inaugurated the workshop. He explained the significance of IETE Chapter and emphasized the advantages of being a member in technical society like IETE. Dr. P. Supriya, Vice Chairperson and Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, explained the significance of soft computing techniques.
During the workshop, soft computing techniques such as Fuzzy Logic (FL), Simulated Annealing (SA), Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swam Optimization (PSO) were covered. Associate Professor Dr. S. Balamurugan and Assistant Professor Dr. K.R.M. Vijaya Chandrakala of the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore dealt with the topics Fuzzy Logic (FL) and Simulated Annealing (SA). The participants also received hands-on training using MATLAB.
Day two of the workshop covered the topics, Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swam Optimization (PSO). The sessions were handled by Associate Professor Dr. S. Balamurugan and Assistant Professor N. Kathiraven. The members of Power System Operation and Control TAG gave hands on training to the participants in all the Soft Computing techniques.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr. S. Balamurugan and Dr. K.R.M. Vijaya Chandrakala. A total of 60 participants attended the workshop from Tamil Nadu and Kerela. The participants were very satisfied with the workshop. They said that implementing the soft computing techniques will be useful in solving their problems in project work.
Finally, Dr. S. Balamurugan proposed the vote of thanks. He also asked the participants to support the level 2 workshop on soft computing, where the soft computing techniques will be brought to reality through embedded systems.
