Ms. Vidhya Prakash (Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) won the prestigious ‘Best Young Researcher’ award at Biospectrum 2019, an international conference on Advances in Food and Industrial Biotechnology. The conference, held at School of Biosciences, Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies (MACFAST), Thiruvalla, saw a strong contingent from Amrita School of Biotechnology vying for the top prizes. The conference that took place from November 24-26, 2019, was a grand scientific gathering featuring the presence of eminent national and international dignitaries.
Ms. Vidhya was chosen for her elaborate and useful scientific treatise on the probiotic properties of Lactobacillus fermentum strains isolated from rice water and lemon pickle. Her work vindicates the functional health benefits of traditional and provincial foods. Recent research data generated from the labs of Amrita School of Biotechnology were presented by faculty members during pertinent sessions of the conference.
Dr. Jayalekshmi H. (Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) presented a poster on the topic “Combinatorial Effect of Garlic Essential Oil and Tetracycline against Pseudomonas Aerugonosa Biofilm.”
Ms. Suja Subhash (Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) presented a poster on “Antifungal Activity and Potential Mode of Inhibition Studies using Plumbagin against Soft Rot Disease in Zhizome of Zingiber Officiale (Ginger).”
Mr. Ajith Madhavan (Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) delivered an oral presentation on “Isolation of Chitinolytic Bacteria from Feneropenaeus Indicus (Indian White Shrimp)”.
Dr. Sindhu Shetty K. (Assistant Professor, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) delivered an oral presentation on “Optimization of Cost-effective Production Media for Alpha-1,5-L-Endo Arabinose Employing RSM Analysis”.
Mr. Sreejith M. (Faculty Associate, School of Biotechnology, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham) delivered an oral presentation on “Utilization of Plant Biomass to Control Pathogens in Sewage”.
