Dr. Balakrishnan Shankar, Associate Dean of Amrita School of Engineering, Amritapuri campus, recently delivered a talk at the three-day ‘Vaicharik Kumbh’ on ‘Vigyan Evam Adhyatam’ – a ‘Science and Spirituality’ conference held at Bhopal from February 12-14, 2016. His talk was titled “Quantum Mechanics and Consciousness” and was very well received and sparked a lot of discussions among the delegates about how quantum mechanics seems to be tending towards the ancient Indian philosophy of Vedanta. 

The unique conference was honoured by the presence of eminent personalities such as Madhavan Nair, Chairman ISRO; Dr. Nagendra, Chancellor, SVYASA University, Swami Atmapriyananda, Vice Chancellor, RK Mission; Dr. Alex Hinky, Professor, SVYASA University; Dr. Prabhat Ranjan, Executive Director, TIFAC and Dr. Mahadevan, Professor, IIM Bangalore.  The conference was organised under the joint aegis of The Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Vigyan Bharati and Swami Vivekananda University, Bangalore.
