Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram, Professor, Public Health Dentistry, Amrita School of Dentistry, Kochi, was awarded the Research Scholar Fellowship for Public Health Informatics at National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), National Institute of Health (NIH), USA for one year starting from July 2017 to June 2018. It is for the first time they have awarded this prestigious postdoctoral fellowship to a non-USA applicant.

The fellowship training includes health services research, surveillance, disease prevention, and health promotion with an emphasis on incorporating “Big Data” or data analytics concepts and skills, such as text mining, named entity recognition, image analysis or health records analysis, and clinical research informatics. Topics in clinical informatics could include capture, processing, and analysis of clinical data for patient care and research and the development of health informatics resources.
