Prof. K. R. Sundaram, Professor and Head of Biostatistics at Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, received the Smt. Ramrati Lalima Sahai Award for the year 2016 at its Thirty-fifth Annual National Conference, held November 2-4, 2017, for his distinguished contributions to the discipline of Medical Statistics and meritorious services rendered to the Indian Society for Medical Statistics (ISMS). The award ceremony at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow.

He presented a paper on “Thesis Preparation of the Residents of Various Postgraduate Courses in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS )- A Model” during the conference. The participants, who were statisticians and medical faculty from different medical colleges and institutions all over the world, appreciated the model and suggested that it could be followed by other PG medical institutes. 

Prof. Sundaram was the General Secretary of the ISMS for three years and President for two years. He had already been awarded with Prof. P. V. Sukhatme award for the best paper in nutrition, applying advanced statistical methods in an earlier ISMS conference and the best young researcher by ISMS, which consisted of a scroll of honour and Rs.15,000/- for his publications in Biostatistical Applications.
