Dr. Sreevalsa Kolathayar, Assistant Professor (SG), Department of Civil Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, was invited by the President, Indian Society of Earthquake Technology (ISET), IIT Roorkee, to be a special invitee to the 184th Executive Committee Meeting of the ISET held on 2ndMarch 2016, at IIT Roorkee. He made a brief presentation on the National document titled, ‘Preparing to Face an Earthquake: Lessons for India’, authored by Prof. T G Sitharam (IISc) and Dr. Sreevalsa. The ISET EC members appreciated the effort and gave their valuable comments.
It was decided in the meeting to publish the document as ISET Document in 12 different Indian languages. The President assured that ISET will recommend that the concerned authorities include a part of the document in NCERT text books for creating earthquake awareness among school children. Dr. Sreevalsa also had fruitful academic interaction with Prof. Pradipta Banerjee, Hon. Director IIT Roorkee during the ISET Annual lecture, on uncertainty in modeling of structural parameters and seismic ground motion.
Dr. Sreevalsa, along with Prof. Sitharam, visited Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar on 3rd March 2016, and interacted with Acharya Balkrishna, Chairman and Managing Director, Patanjali Ayurved, General Secretary,Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust and Chancellor, Patanjali University. The Acharya poured his blessings towards the noble mission of enhancing earthquake awareness and preparedness among the communities residing in vulnerable regions of India. He extended his support for translation and circulation of the document in North and North Eastern parts of India. The Acharya also recollected the noble endeavors of Mata Amritanandamayi Math and remembered Chancellor Amma affectionately.
