Dr. Pillay V. V., Head of Department, Department of Forensic Medicine, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, attended the 12th Annual National Conference of the Indian Society of Toxicology (TOXOCON-12), which was held at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, Gangtok, Sikkim, from April 6 to 7, 2018.
He was invited to deliver the Annual IST Oration during the inaugural ceremony on the morning of the first day of the conference. The theme of the conference was ‘Substance Abuse’. Aside from the oration, there were invited lectures from national and international speakers, scientific papers and posters, debates, panel discussions, with awards galore.
On April 7, a unique hands-on workshop titled “Indian Society of Toxicology Life Support Course (ISTOLS)” was held with actual bedside training in handling common toxicologic emergencies with the help of trained emergency medicine physicians, critical care specialists and anaesthesiologists, from India and Nepal. This is the first time ever that such a course was conducted tailored to the Indian scenario, and it is planned to be a regular feature in all subsequent editions of TOXOCON.
Dr. Pillay was part of the team that designed and executed the program which was inaugurated in the conference and was hugely appreciated by the 35 participants who had registered for the workshop.
