During the COVID-19 crisis, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, has developed a cost effective ventilator for COVID-19 patients. Faculty Members designed a model at a lower cost compared to other ventilators.

The model is based on a Bag Valve Mask (BVM), sometimes known by the proprietary name Ambu bag or “self-inflating bag”, a device commonly used to provide positive pressure ventilation to patients who are not breathing or not breathing adequately. The ventilator prototype was designed at a lower cost to match the requirements for India and could be apt for low-economy countries.
