The Department of Social Work collaborates with international, national and local institutions and NGOs to provide rich opportunities for certification, projects and research coupled with a strong focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that bridge theory and practice.
Collaboration with Local Institutions and NGOs (Block Placements):
The collaboration with our local institutional partners provides our students rich opportunities of experiential learning and in-depth practice of their specializations (please see our specializations in the curriculum section). With the help of the faculty our students get introduced to the blooming profession-related social work practice combined with supervision and self-reflection.

Curriculum:
Our Curriculum is specially tailored and designed to government needs and international standards. We opt for high quality education focusing on theoretical knowledge, practical exposure paired with life skills training. As a partnering institution with the UNESCO Chair of Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality we tie our curriculum and coursework to the SDGs # 3 Good Health and Welling; # 5 Gender Equality, Decent Work and economic growth.
Our specializations Community Development (#11 Sustainable Cities and Communities), Physical and Mental Health (#3 Good Health and Wellbeing), Child Rights and Child protection (#10 Reduced Inequalities; #16 Peace, Justice and and Strong Institutions) Disaster Management (#11.5 Reduce the Adverse Effects of Natural Disasters) are created to prepare our Social Work students to future profession related tasks and societal trends.
Currently we are in the process to create a fifth specialization “Gender Sensitization” (SDG # 5 Gender Equality).
A striking quality of our curriculum is its flexibility and responsiveness towards current cultural and environmental needs. In the 2020 national Lockdown our MSW coursework got translated into a mental health helpline. Besides that, Amrita Students Reach Out to Monitor Rural Communities’ Wellbeing during COVID-19 Pandemic.
