The department of Computer Science and Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore campus, conducted its annual village outreach programme on 25th October, 2016 to coincide with the Diwali festive season. One hundred faculty members and students from the department, led by Dr. Latha Parameswaran, Chairperson of the department of Computer Science and Engineering, visited 4 government schools at C. G. Pudur, Muruganpathy, Chinnampathy and Puthupathy, all hamlets nearby the Amrita’s Coimbatore campus. They provided uniforms, notebooks, sports kits, stationary, utensils, computer peripherals, saplings, footwear, seeds for vegetable gardens, sweets and lunch for around 150 children in these village and tribal schools.
Department faculty members and students collected over Rs. 50,000 for this social outreach activity, which was coordinated by Dr. N. Harini and Mr. B.A. Sabarish, assistant professors of the department. This outreach activity has been happening since 2007. Muruganpathy village is one of the 101 villages selected under the Amrita Self Reliant Village (Amrita SeRVe) programme of Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
