The alumni of School of Business, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Bengaluru campus, gathered at Stepping Stones Center, a school supporting and empowering children with autism, to assist and lend a helping hand, on June 1, 2019.
Autism or autism spectrum disorder impacts the nervous system and affects the overall cognitive, emotional, social and physical health of the affected individual. Early recognition followed with behavioural, educational and family therapies help reduce the symptoms and support development. Early signs of Autism include children not making eye contact when spoken to, is not responding to his or her name and is not using or responding to gestures to communicate etc.
The alumni were briefed about the importance of early diagnosis and how India is still nascent stages of accepting children with autism. Following the briefing, the alumni along with the school staff were grouped into teams to assist the school in setting up vertical plastic bottle gardens, painting walls and other activities. The activities were designed in such a way that everyone interacted with each other and had fun too.
“We understand how important such schools are for the growth and development of kids with autism and we are extremely thankful to all the dedicated staff at the school. We also are grateful to our alumni for having taken their time out to provide a helping hand towards the school,” shared the alumni.
“As the alumni network grows stronger we hope that we are able to give back in powerful ways that impact and improve the community and the society,” they added.
