Dr. P. Ram Manohar, Research Director, Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda (ACARA), Amrita School of Ayurveda, participated in the International Conference on Radiation Biology held at SRM University, Chennai on 10th November, 2016. He delivered a talk on “Ayurvedic Interventions for Management of Cancer: Scope and Possibilities”. The session was chaired by Dr. Julie Arnold, Program Director, Translational Research Program, Specialised Programs of Research Excellence, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, US Department of Health and Human Services, Rockville, USA.
In his talk, he gave an overview of cancer descriptions in classical Ayurvedic texts, the current status of cancer treatment in Ayurvedic clinical practice, the status of cancer research and the future scope and possibilities of cancer management from the Ayurvedic perspective. The priority areas for research were identified and highlighted.
After the talk, he visited the Interdisciplinary Institute for Indian Systems of Medicine (IIISM) at SRM University which has a very well equipped research laboratory and Clinical Trial Unit for conducting research on Ayurveda partly funded by DST, Government of India.
He also participated in the Panel Discussion on Cancer Research, chaired by Dr. Julie Arnold, National Cancer Institute, USA.
