Dr. P. Rammanohar, Research Director of Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda at School of Ayurveda, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, has been appointed in the Three Member Committee of the World Health Organization for drafting International Terminology of Ayurveda for inclusion in the International Classification of Diseases – ICD-11.
The first meeting of the Committee was held on March 19, 2019, at Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Life Style Related Disorders, Poojapura, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The meeting was presided by Shri. P.N. Ranjith Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Dr. Geethakrishnan, Technical Officer, Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCI) Unit, WHO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland also participated in the meeting.
The three member committee constituted by WHO for developing International Ayurvedic Terminology are represented by Dr. P. Rammanohar, Research Director, Amrita School of Ayurveda, Dr. Manoj Sankaranarayana, Medical Officer, Department of ISM, Government of Kerala and Dr. Saketh Ram Thrigulla, Research Officer, National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage, Hyderabad.
Within a period of one year about 14,000 technical terms in Ayurveda would be standardized and published by the WHO.
