The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has announced the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2019 for best universities in India on April 8, 2019, at Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was awarded 59.22 scores with the eighth rank. Amrita has been adjudged as one of the “Top 10 Universities in India” for the third consecutive year.
In the “Medical” section, Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, was ranked fifth best medical college in the country and first in the state among the medical colleges. In the “Pharmacy” category, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Kochi, came 15th in the country and first in the state among the pharmacy colleges.
According to Dr. Prem Kumar Nair, Medical Director Amrita School of Medicine, it is a great honour for Amrita Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy. He said, “This is a testimony to the hard work and commitment of all those associated with the two colleges and also a recognition nationally to the facilities and programs successfully implemented for over two decades. Our focus on low-cost affordable healthcare, set of standards for operating rooms, intensive care units, patient care wards, laboratories, pioneers in many medical initiatives, such as robotics surgeries, are something which we can boast of.”

Amrita has been on the forefront of active research in the field of medical sciences, graduation outcomes-combined percentage of students graduating from this campus and getting placed in jobs and admission to higher education in top universities across the world. Students graduating and becoming entrepreneurs was also a criterion for assessment.
In 2018, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham bagged the eighth rank with a 58.46 score and ninth rank in 2017. The list of the best universities is prepared based on various parameters such as teaching, learning & resources, research & professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach & inclusivity, placement records and perception.
