The Dataquest-IDC T-School Survey is well respected nation-wide for the rigorous survey methods it employs. Now in its fifth year, the survey makes an annual ranking of the top engineering colleges in the nation.
 

This year, Amrita ranked as the 6th Best Private T-School in India. Of all engineering colleges surveyed nation-wide, Amrita listed among the top 30.
 

The survey included various parameters such as intellectual capital, research and publications, infrastructure, facilities and placement.
 

“While the placement of engineering students fell from 84% to 73% in 2009 across the country, Amrita registered an enviable record of 93% placement during the same period,” stated Prof. Parameshwaran, Director of Corporate and International Relations at Amrita.
 

“A combination of factors contributed, such as highly motivated students, committed faculty and an academic ambience most conducive to learning,” he continued. “We have a focused training and placement program that helps us achieve record placement levels.”
 

As in other years, several IITs and NITs, figured at the top of the list. The survey conducted by International Data Corporation (IDC) India Ltd was published in Dataquest Volume XXVII No. 24, Dec 31, 2009 issue. The complete statistics are also available at the Dataquest website.
 

“Every year, 75% of the weightage is given to response from institutes, that is arrived at, after normalization of the weights attributed to aspects such as placements, intellectual capital, infrastructure, and industry interface,” explains the website.
 

“The remaining 25% is reserved for the perception of recruiters. This year, DQ-IDC spoke to about thirty companies across all industry verticals such as manufacturing, IT, oil and gas to get a more balanced view in the wake of the slowdown.”
 

The survey also focused extensively on the research work undertaken by the colleges. Overall, it found that the number of research papers fell from 162 to 145 from 2007-08 to 2008-09. The percent of colleges filing patents increased during the same period, however, as also the number of patents per college.
