A two day program on specialized endoscopic techniques titled “AIMS GI Endo Meet 2015” was conducted at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences by the Department of Gastroenterology from February 14–15, 2015. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences. A live video demonstration of the treatment of certain diseases of pancreas and bile duct was shown to gastroeneterologists from across the country. 

Specialized procedures were demonstrated using the endoscope, with the aid of X-ray and ultrasound, thereby avoiding surgery altogether. These procedures were performed by Dr. Rama P. Venu, Professsor and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and a team of experts including Dr. Neil Gupta of Loyola University Hospital, Chicago, USA; Dr.Vikram Bhatia of Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), Delhi and Dr. Malay Sharma, Director, Consultant Gastroenterologist / Hepatologist and Head of Endoscopic Services, Jaswant Rai Speciality Hospital, Meerut.

Additionally, a hands-on workshop on endoscopic ultrasound was also conducted on February 15, 2015 to train a selected group of gastroenterologists.
