The Department of Biochemistry at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences conducted a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on the topic Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathies on December 19, 2014. AIMS Medical Director, Dr. Prem Nair inaugurated the program. Dr. Sajitha Krishnan, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, AIMS, delivered the welcome address. Dr.Prathapan Nair, Principal, Amrita School of Medicine and Dr. D.M. Vasudaven, Former Principal, Amrita School of Medicine delivered the felicitation.
The inaugural function was followed by scientific sessions. Dr. Sreekumari S., Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Sree Gokulam Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram delivered a talk on the topic The Genetics of Hemoglobinopathies. Dr. Neeraj Sidharthan, Associate Professor, Department.of Oncology, AIMS discussed the topic Clinically Significant Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathies. Dr. Sumithra N. Unni, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, AIMS presented on Evaluation of Hemoglobinopathies and Thalassemia.
