Amrita School of Business, Amritapuri
Dr. V. S. Somanath recently returned to Amrita after completing a two-year stint as faculty at the School of Business and Management in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Known for its orientation in research, the university houses the B-School that ranks among the best in the world.*
The School offers an Executive MBA program in partnership with the Kellogg School of Management. This program ranks number one worldwide as per a Financial Times survey.
“At Hong Kong, I had the opportunity to interact with researchers and educators from all over the world,” Dr. Somanath shared. “There were students from over 70 countries studying there.”
Dr. Somanath taught Finance classes to MBA students at Hong Kong. In addition, he was a consultant to the University in the area of International Financial Management.
“The School is known for its quality programs and faculty research that are on the cutting-edge,” he shared.
The School of Business and Management in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is known to invite top scholars and executives from around the world to join as faculty, with the aim to prepare students for the global business world. All faculty members have doctorate degrees.
“It was a worthwhile experience for me to teach in a school that is so highly ranked,” explained Dr. Somanath. Now back at Amritapuri, he has assumed charge as Chairperson of the MBA program. With the current emphasis at the Amrita School of Business for collaborations with the best institutions worldwide, Dr. Somanath’s recent international experience will greatly help.
“My teaching stint also provided me an opportunity to understand business in Southern China,” he remarked.
This is not the first time that Dr. Somanath was in China, however. Dr. Somanath has taught earlier at the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics; he has visited China regularly for nearly a decade,
Dr. Somanath earned his MBA, MPhil and PhD degrees from New York University in the US, and taught for several years in the US, before joining Amrita.
Having briefly worked at the United Nations, Center for Transnational Corporations, in New York and at Rollei Corporation in Singapore, Dr. Somanath’s experience combines the best of the both the business and academic worlds.
