In a colorful ceremony organized at Amrita’s Health Sciences campus, all these graduates of the B.Sc. Nursing batches of 2005 and 2006 were bid farewell.

The function began as the graduating classes walked into the hall to occupy their seats among the audience comprised of their proud faculty, parents and administrators.

Dr. Alice George, Dean of the Manipal College of Nursing, inaugurated the proceedings and addressed the graduates.

“The purpose of all the professional education you have received in nursing is to prepare you to be skillful nurses who practice nursing in a scientific way with confidence in yourselves,” she reminded the graduates.

“Your aim should be to provide the best and maximum care for patients. The central core of nursing is care with concern, compassion and quality. Consider each hospitalization and each sickness as a new stress and experience for the patients and help them come out of this positively. Demonstrate humaneness in care.”

Sampoojya Swami Jnanamritananda Puri, one of Chancellor Amma’s senior disciples, also blessed the gathering.

Dr. Prem Nair, Medical Director, enlightened graduates about the importance of values in the nursing profession.

“Knowledge is always changing and updating knowledge should be a continuous process for you,” he also underlined.

Dr. S. Krishnamurthy, Registrar, Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham, Prof. K. T. Molly, Principal, Amrita College of Nursing, Dr. Kochurani Joseph, Professor of Economics, Bharata Mata College, Thrikkakara, and Prof. Ambika, Principal, Govt. College of Nursing, Thrissur also spoke.

Prof. Sheela Pavithran, Vice Principal, Amrita College of Nursing finally administered the nurses’ pledge to the new graduates. A lamp was lit, symbolizing the passing of knowledge to these young nurses, with the ideals of compassion and care.

Prizes and certificates were awarded for excellence in academic and clinical performances.
