ACARA (Amrita Centre for Advanced Research in Ayurveda) conducted a one day workshop on Medical Statistics for Ayurveda PhD Scholars at Amrita School of Ayurveda, Amritapuri on April 18, 2016.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Supriya Bhalerao, MD, PhD (Ayu), of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune who has expertise in Endocrinology, Biostatistics and Biotechnology. During the workshop, Dr. Supriya Bhalerao discussed types of data and data presentation techniques, along with measures of central tendency and variability. Further. she elaborated on sample size calculations for various studies. The challenges in applying the principles of statistics to assess outcomes of complex study designs in Ayurveda also was discussed during the workshop. “Science without statistics bears no fruit and statistics without science has no roots,” said Dr. Bhalerao. All the sessions were interactive and the scholars actively participated in the discussions.
Dr. Supriya Bhalerao has 15 years research experience, and has worked on projects with Dept. of AYUSH, DBT, DST, ICMR, CSIR and PSA Office in the capacity of Research Associate and investigator. She presently serves as a scientist at the Interactive Research School for Health Affairs, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune.
