The WE (Women’s Empowerment) Project Store stands as a tangible outcome of years of successful skill development programs that have redefined vocational education in India. By providing underserved women with access to educational programs, it has empowered them with a sense of agency, enabling them to take control of their lives and decisions. Graduates gain more than just skills; they develop a sense of identity, purpose, confidence, and financial independence, fostering respect and personal growth while contributing back to their communities.
Since 2009, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and its research center AMMACHI Labs has been at the forefront of designing and implementing technologies that promote inclusive empowerment through education and skill development. With expertise in over 24 trades, we have empowered thousands using technology to scale its impact.
The WE Project Store is a vibrant platform where one can discover a wide range of handcrafted products created by artisans trained through the various skill training initiatives of AMMACHI Labs and the Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. These products represent the culmination of transformative training programs that empower artisans from underserved communities across the country. Each item tells a story of resilience, skill, and empowerment, offering a meaningful way to support these talented individuals and their journey toward financial independence and community development.
The Sivasakthi Tailoring Group is one of the most ambitious Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to emerge from the training provided under the SAKALP AVASAR Project. Equipped with 15 industrial machines and one embroidery machine, the group has made remarkable strides in establishing a thriving business. They have secured orders from local communities, online stores, and wholesalers, showcasing their growing presence in the market.
With continued mentorship from the Amrita team, they receive guidance in marketing and product development, ensuring their sustained growth. Over the past year, the group has successfully stitched over 4,000 bags for conferences, seminars, and departmental requirements. In addition, they produce customized baby apparel and nightwear, diversifying their offerings and strengthening their position as a community-driven enterprise.
