20th June, 2016 witnessed the inaugural function of the 2016-18 MBA batch – the 8th batch to join the Amrita MBA programme at Amritapuri campus.
The hall was filled with nervous freshers and their parents. A phalanx of faculty, staff, 2nd year students and alumni were also there to welcome them and put them at ease. A short video of the campus and the MBA programme preceded the formal function that commenced with the traditional lamp lighting and prayer. The chief guest, Sri Sandith Thandasherry, CEO and Founder Navgathi Marine Design and Constructions and CEO & Naval Architect, NavAlt Solar & Electric Boats Pvt. Ltd was felicitated by campus director Br. Sudeep.
The newcomers were given a taste of the calibre of wisdom they were soon to access as they heard the Dean’s message. The campus director’s short, but eloquent and evocative speech, further bolstered their confidence. His reference to having witnessed a positive transformation over two years in the students of the previous batches brought smiles to all faces.
When the chief guest, the man behind India’s first solar powered boat, endorsed the programme and also provided guidance on how to maximize its utility, there was no doubt in the newcomers minds that they had made the right decision by signing up for the MBA at Amritapuri. Encouragement regarding their employment prospects was given by Br Biju kumar, Chairman Corporate and Industrial Relations (CIR), Amritapuri and Sri. Anil Panicker, General Manager CIR.
Parents and guardians were further enthused by the eloquent oratory of Prof. ARG Menon, Head Student Affairs, who lauded the programme as having some the most disciplined students he has interacted with.
Mr. Sreenath N (2011-13 batch), currently working with Federal Bank, and Mr. Joel Sebastian (2014-16 batch) placed with Philips Lighting, also addressed the new batch. The alumni appealed to the students to make best use of the opportunities that the campus offers. “What makes you different is how you utilize the opportunities and learn from them”.
A sumptuous lunch was preceded by a witty and warm hearted vote of thanks by Prof. Avinash, Chair Admissions Committee.
Post-lunch the students and parents met with the respective mentors, and by early evening parents were wishing their children the very best as they settled into the hostel for the start of 2 years of fun, learning and transformation from eager students into confident young professionals ready to contribute to society with their unique skills.
