Students of Amritapuri campus made Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham proud by emerging as champions in the Kollam District Powerlifting Championship held on February 2015 and Kerala State Power lifting Championship held at Cherthala from February 21-22, 2015.
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in its third consecutive medal winning spree in the tournament, bagged 15 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals.
Yadhu Raj, a fifth semester BBM student of the Amrita School of Arts and Sciences in Amritapuri, retained the first position in the Kollam District Powerlifting Championship. For the first time in the history of Amrita, two female students of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Aishwarya and Nikhila bagged gold medals in the championship.
In the Kerala State Power lifting Championship, held at Cherthala Yadhu Raj won 2 gold medals, Rohith K. P. [Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering] won a silver medal and Gokul (B.Com. Department of Commerce and Management, Amrita School of Arts & Sciences) won a bronze medal. Yadhu Raj also won the titles “Best Lifter of Kerala 2015”, “Senior Strong Man of Kollam 2015” and “Junior Strong Man of Kollam 2015”
The training provided by gymnasium instructors Bijeesh C. and Ratheesh P. M., of the department of Physical Education, played a major role in making these marvelous achievements by the Amrita athletes possible.
