Dr. Narendra Kumar, Head, Quality Assurance, Orchid Healthcare Ltd., Sriperumbudur, Irungattukottai, Chennai, addressed B.Pharm. and M.Pharm. students of Amrita School of Pharmacy on September 19, 2015 on “An Overview of Intellectual Property Rights in Pharmaceutical Industry.”

Dr. Kumar narrated the history, progress and current trends in protection of intellectual property rights through patenting. Dr. Kumar also provided the statistics of Pharma vs. Biotechnology market. In addition, the current practices a company follows, in disclosure of intellectual property and its pros and cons, as well as Post-TRIPS Scenario and the classical examples of patent litigation were also discussed. The presentation was highly interactive. The talk was organized to commemorate World Pharmacy Day.
