From The Director’s Desk

It has been my joy and pride to see this Center grow in leaps since we began in 2006. Our PG programs started in 2007 along with a PhD program. Now we offer six PG degree courses, one UG program in Molecular Medicine, and a PhD program, all of which are highly interdisciplinary. The field of Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine has captured the imagination of scientists, the industry and students for the opportunities that have opened up. Our programs are very translationally oriented, that is we strive to develop better and more efficient and more durable products in healthcare and technology – nanomedicines that are superior to conventional medicines and energy products with capacities and power that cannot be duplicated with conventional products. We seek to inspire, to serve, to mentor and to innovate. Our students and our Center have come to expect and sustain excellence. This is why we are the highest ranked Nano Bio Center in the country.

Straight From The Heart
Dr. Manzoor Koyakutty
Professor, Cancer Nanomedicine & Immunotherapeutics Group, ASNSMM

Amrita School of Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine gave me an extraordinary opportunity to work in the field of Cancer, though my educational training was in Physics (PhD), and my prior working experience was in Nanomaterial Science. This unique opportunity opened up great avenues for conducting innovative and translational research with the help of the state-of-the-art facility at ACNSMM. The experience of working with our highly interdisciplinary team of researchers, including clinicians, cell biologists, molecular biologists, and engineers, was unique. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is a fantastic platform for researchers and students to build a career in the interdisciplinary field of science, medicine, and technology, with no pre-defined boundaries imposed.

Dr. Deepthy Menon
Professor, Nanobioengineering Group, ASNSMM

To be a faculty at the School for Nanosciences & Molecular Medicine, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, has been an enriching experience to me. The value-based learning imparted to our students at Amrita provides a thoroughly enjoyable and unique educational opportunity. Students from diverse disciplines who aspire for the interdisciplinary courses offered here, gain a wealth of delicate skills in the field of nanoscience and technology. Soon after we support their wings with wisdom and knowledge, they migrate to the exciting worlds of scientific research or industry, bringing laurels to our Center. It is indeed a treat to be part of this family at Amrita!

Dr. Jayakumar Rangasamy
Professor, Polymeric Biomaterials Group, ASNSMM

I am proud to be a part of India’s best Nano Bio Research Center. I feel privileged to work in such an excellent interdisciplinary research Center, where the focus is mostly on translational medicine. I feel really happy to train the young minds of our country in the area of Nanobiotechnology through our multiple postgraduate programs. As a faculty, I am delighted to see our students achieving great success in their lives and careers.

Dr. Mariyappan Shanmugam
Associate Professor, Semiconductors, Nanomaterials and Devices Group, ASNSMM

Successful completion of an undergraduate program in Engineering and Basic Science degrees should be able to reward appropriate jobs or suitable higher degree openings to the prospective students, for establishing their career further. But the real situation is challenging due to the competition and limited opportunities. As a prospective student, one can envisage directly from our alumni that pursuing Master degrees at Amrita Centre for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine facilitates students to overcome the major limitations existing in the traditional Master degree programs. I started my career at ASNSMM in 2016 after I completed my PhD, Postdoctoral and Industry research from United States. Since then, I work with Master and PhD students in the area of energy research. Fourteen Master students have graduated and joined in premier research institutes including National Institute of Materials Science (NIMS-Japan), University of Alabama-USA and Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST)- South Korea. This has happened just in four years and will continue forever as the work environment exuberates students in all possible ways. (i) Highly specific and research-oriented courses, (ii) Internationally trained faculty, (iii) Advanced research projects and (iv) Thesis with a publication are a few highlights that I want to convey to the prospective students. Two years of fun-filled skill development in the cutting-edge technologies, along with an industrial visit and a one-year project will make the prospective students really prosper in their academic life.

Dr. Binulal Nelson Sathy
Assistant Professor, Regenerative Medicine Group, ASNSMM

I strongly believe that the philosophy and objectives of the ASNSMM course modules are unique and thoroughly empowering, which sufficiently builds a framework that prepares students to meet upcoming challenges in their careers. This is also equally rewarding for the mentor because, in the pursuit of delivering high-value lectures, the mentor tries and includes appropriately up-to-date knowledge. The students’ scientific inquisitiveness is rightfully triggered by the combination of lectures and interactive discussion in an informal atmosphere created on a unique platform. The students are sure to acquire a solid basis for interchanging ideas with the faculty. The unique opportunity for students to pursue high-quality research in a state-of-the-art facility at the center would greatly empower them to pursue a successful research career anywhere in the world. It is indeed a great privilege for me to be a part of the Amrita Center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine.
