Registration Process for
International Students
The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is a government office responsible for registering foreign nationals who are staying in India for more than 180 days. This registration is mandatory for all foreign nationals, with the exception of nationals of Burma and Nepal. They are required to register themselves with a Registration Officer within 14 days of arriving in India.
The process for FRRO registration for international students is as follows:
Note: In every three months the institution must update the academic performance of the student in ‘S’ form portal and the ‘S’ form must be exited after course completion.
If a student leaves the campus for more than 24 hours, their C form must be exited and re-entered upon their return.
The responsibility for C form entry lies with both the student and the institution.
Students must come only on a student visa.
If a student changes their Program, they must apply for a program change with FRRO and pay a fee of Rs:6500. The fee may vary depending on the country. The mentioned charge is valid for both campus and institution changes.
Students can also change their Visa entry type from single entry to Multiple/Triple/Double entry.
Documents needed for institution Change.
The student is required to re-register under FRRO in the new jurisdiction and submit a transfer application in the existing FRRO jurisdiction.
The campus change follows the same procedure.
As per the policy of the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) all the OCI/PIO card holders who desire to perform research (at University or in any other organizations) in India are required to apply and receive special permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Documents Required for Faculty
OCI students need not to do C form, S form or FRRO registration but in some states in India FRRO prefers to treat them as international and in such cases, it is mandatory for all FRRO processes for them.
