Who is a Foreign National?

A candidate is considered as a “Foreign National” who

  • Holds a passport/ Citizenship of a country other than India. OR
  • Has an OCI/ PIO card and also holds a Passport of a country other than India.

 

Note: • An applicant having an OCI card and studying throughout India will be considered as a “Foreign National”.

  • Non-Resident Indian (NRI) / Indian Citizen whose qualifying examination is from an International Board/ Foreign University will NOT BE CONSIDERED as Foreign National.

Do I need to pay any Application Fees?

International students are exempted from paying any admission application fee with the exception of students from Nepal. The application fee is applicable for Nepalese applicants and is as communicated by the Amrita Nepal office representative.

  • Vegetarian food will be provided at the university mess facility
  • Food allergies that have been communicated by student(s) must be clearly communicated to the respective university mess
Do I need medical insurance?

Yes, all international students are required to have health insurance, once they got admission letter from the university. The insurance should cover the entire duration of your stay in India with the duration clearly stated. It is advisable that the student gets a general check-up done before departure, to ensure that he / she does not suffer from any major ailment(s)

Do I need to submit an immunisation record?

Yes, all students must submit an immunization record. Amrita requires all entering students to provide proof of immunity for a number of infectious diseases. (compulsory to Africans)

Where can we get Student visa?

Student Visas can be obtained from any of the Indian Embassy in their country.

What type of visa is required to study in Amrita?

We require all students to acquire a student visa in order to receive any recognition/credits for the coursework or internship completed at Amrita. We cannot accept students who come on a tourist visa.

What is the fee amount and payment mode?
  • The Fee structure for the program is strictly based on the Provisional Offer Letter (POL) issued to the student. No other fee structure will be applicable
  • Annual Tuition Fee includes Exam fees, Library fees, and / or the Caution Deposit
  • Fee payments are to be made in US Dollars (USD), with the exception of Nepalese students who can make the payments in INR
  • The payment should be made before reaching the campus. Late payment will not be encouraged
  • All fees are to be transferred to the bank account details as provided by the International office
  • A copy of the fee transfer must be sent by the student to the International office in order to acknowledge the payment receipt
What should I bring with me?

It is highly recommended that students have the following with them:

  • Educational certificates both original and xerox (English Translate copies need both xerox and originals)

What should I do when I arrive in India?

Once you have rested and gotten in touch with the Center for International Programs, it is imperative that you register with the local Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival if you have come to India on a Student or a Research Visa and plan to stay more than 2 months (60 days). Registration facilities are not provided at the airport but in the office of FRROs or District Superintendents of Police. A member of the Amrita Center for International Programs can accompany students to the local FRRO but all transportation charges must be paid by students.

What is the FRRO process?
  • Any student arriving to study in Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham must arrive only on a Student Visa / Research Visa.
  • Visas of any other nature will not be entertained for study purposes. Any exceptions will need to be considered on a case to case basis with FRRO
  • All FRRO documentation is done on the e-FRRO portal with the assistance of the Amrita International office representative
  • Upon arrival on campus, the student needs to submit the following forms on the e-FRRO portal.
    • Form C – This form helps the authorities locate and track foreigners in India to enhance security and safety. Upon arrival in India, the student needs to fill the Form C within 24 hrs of arrival on campus with the assistance of the Amrita International office representative.Subsequently, if the student stays away from the campus for more than 24 hrs, the student needs to submit the Form C for each place / accommodation (University, Hotel, Guesthouse, resort, private house, etc.) he / she chooses to be in during his stay outside the campus. This should be with the approval of the International Office representative
    • Form S – This form is used to capture information about foreign nationals admitted in Indian educational institutions. If the visa is valid for more than 180 days, it is mandatory for the international student to register themselves using the Form S within 14 days from date of arrival in India.In certain cases, a Bonafide certificate and undertaking letter is required from the respective HOD to complete the student’s FRRO registration.
  • The International Office representative needs to submit each international student’s attendance and results on the e-FRRO portal once in 3 months.
  • The student must inform the International office representative 2 days in advance if he plans to exit from the campus. The campus coordinator / International office representative is responsible to complete the FRRO exit formalities for the student once the student leaves the campus premises

Visa Requirements

  1. two passport-size photographs.
  2. completed visa application form with all information
  3. letter from your host institution indicating that you have been admitted (or, in the case of the provisional visa, that you have applied)
  4. proof of financial support is adequate to cover your tuition and stay in India.

AIU process

Association of Indian Universities (AIU) is the process of receiving equivalency degree certificates from the government of india.

Documents required for AIU process:

  • Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalency certificate for Grade 12, if Grade 12 has been done from a school / institution / board outside India

AIU process should be done by the student online.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. Amrita is fairly strict about the way students dress. It is imperative that all students dress modestly and abide by the customs and norms observed by the institution. Jeans, short tops, short shorts, short skirts, tank tops, overly tight clothes, or torn clothes are NOT allowed to be worn by male or female students.

Will I have access to Wi-Fi?

Yes. You will have access to Students WiFi on the institution campus.

What should I do for extension of visa?

He/she should approach the local FRRO/FRO with an authentic certificate, proof of adequate financial standing etc.

He/She need to collect the bonafide certificate from the AMRITA CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS (ACIP) Department and apply through FRRO Portal.

How do I get a cell phone connection?

The Center for International Programs will aid you in applying for and acquiring a sim card (also can buy the indian sim in the airport after your arrival) but you need to purchase your phone separately. Please bring copies of your passport, proof of address in India (hostel/guest house), and passport size photographs.

How do I open a bank account?

To open an account, you need to bring your

  • Passport size photo
  • College reference letter (optional)
  • Passport copy
  • FRRO Certificate
How do I get internet for my laptop?

The Center will aid you in applying for and acquiring a wifi for your laptop. The Internet will be provided in classrooms and Wi-Fi is available in campuses. If you wish, however, to have 24/7 internet access on your laptop, it would be beneficial to purchase a data card. Please bring copies of your passport, visa copy and passport size photographs.

Can I use additional appliances in the hostel room?

Additional electronic appliances will not be permitted in the hostel rooms. In the event of non-adherence, if found, the appliance will be taken away by the Hostel Warden for safe custody and a penalty may be applicable.

What happens if I cause damage in the hostel room or campus?

Damage caused to any asset / part of asset / appliance within the campus or hostel premises will be charged to the student after scrutiny of the nature and situation under which the damage has taken place by campus Management.

What is the typical voltage rating?

230VAC, 50 Hz

What happens to the scholarship if I fail a few courses in any year?

Failing in one or more courses in an academic could result in cancellation of the Amrita scholarship. Clauses of the Amrita scholarship may be referred to under the Scholarship Tab.

Can I defer my admission?

The University permits deferral of admission for a period of up to one year only.

Is it mandatory to stay in the campus premises?

It is mandatory for students of Under-graduate and Postgraduate studies to stay within the campus premises.

What must I do to study in any of the collaborating foreign universities of Amrita after my current program?

Students who are interested in studying abroad for a short-term or long-term period are advised to get in touch with the Amrita International office in the respective campus for assistance with the application process.

Will I be eligible for working in India after completion of my program?

Regulations for work vary by nationality. Students of Nepal origin are permitted to work in India without a visa. Students of all other nationalities will need to refer to the visa regulations for work as specified by the Immigration of India.

Can I get an opportunity to get a foreign degree along with my study at Amrita?

Amrita offers various Dual degree programs with various partner universities across the globe. Kindly contact the International Office for further information.
