Professor Sunit C. Singhi is a paediatrician of International Repute. He was the head ofAdvance Pediatric Centre, PGIMER Chandigarh for over 33 years, chairmen ,paediatrics atMedanta-The Medicity for 5 years, Principal and Head of Department MM Institute ofMedical Sciences, Ambala. He established India’s first Paediatric Intensive Care unit and firstpost-doctoral DM courses in Pediatric Critical care. He was a visiting professor at the BostonChildren’s Hospital- Harvard Medical School and Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital,Stockholm, Sweden.
Ranked among World’s top 2% medical scientists by Stanford University, Dr Singhi’s
research covered fluid-electrolytes, neurocritical care and treatment of acute asthma andchildhood pneumonia. His work contributed to better understanding of fluid-electrolytebalance and body-water homeostasis newborns, bacterial meningitis, bronchiolitis,pneumonia, and septic shock, and influenced clinical practice and guidelines. He elucidatedthe association between transplacental fluid overload and neonatal jaundice and transienttachypnea of newborn. He received research grants from Indian council of Medical Research,WHO, CCMRC, INCLEN and Sweden and has authored 440 peer-reviewed publications, 79textbook chapters and 11 books. He served as an Associate Editor of PCCM and is a section editor of Rogers’ Textbook of Pediatric Intensive Care.He held several international and national leadershippositions in Critical Care includingPresident and vice-president of World Federation of Pediatric Intensive and Critical caresocieties. In recognition of his work Dr Singhi received ICMR’s Amrut-Mody Unichem Prize2010, for child-health, National Academy of Medical Sciences’ KL Wig Award 2013, SwasthBharat Samman-2011, Claris Critical Care Oration Award 2003, Life Time achievementAwards, medals , orations and best paper awards.
