Dr. Moushumi Suryavanshi is one of the most accomplished Molecular Biologist and Clinical Scientist in the country. She has a rich experience of 22 years. She has established Molecular Laboratory at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi and is a pioneer in the field of Molecular Diagnostics and translational research. She has introduced Liquid biopsy and Next generation sequencing in the diagnostic arena and has been instrumental in developing and validation of cell free DNA, Circulating Tumor cell and Next Generation Sequencing testing in clinical practice in India. Genomics has been her forte and she has extensive clinical experience in higher end molecular techniques including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), Digital PCR, Sanger Sequencing, Fluorescent insitu Hybridization, Nanostring, Circulating Tumor cell detection machines, Pyrosequencing, Real time PCR and many more.
She has developed her laboratory with a four-pillar philosophy of Quality, Clinical Utility, Financial viability to the patient and contribution of Indian genomic data to the larger global community. Internationally she is internal assessor and member of best practices network core committee for European Molecular Genetics Quality Network (EMQN). Nationally she is a member of Task force for Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and has developed many guidelines for Molecular testing. She is a qualified National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) assessor herself and has executed numerous NABL accreditations for her laboratory. She has successfully run many international quality assurance programs like EMQN, NEQUAS and CAP in her laboratory.
She has started Genetic clinic for Hereditary Cancer Counselling, Molecular testing and Report consultation for cancer patients. She has also designed and run a special Molecular laboratory during COVID-19 pandemic including the routine RT-PCR testing to Covid-19 genome sequencing. She has organized multiple Molecular tumor boards, workshops, preceptorship programs, CMEs and conferences.
Besides the clinical work she is a teacher and researcher. She has a long teaching carrier in institutes of repute like Seth GS Medical College and KEM hospital Mumbai, Dr DY Patil Medical college and hospital Mumbai, Vardhman Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi. She has mentored many graduate and post graduate students. She has more than 150 International and National lectures and numerous research projects, publications and book chapters to her credit. She has been editor of the eNewsletter under the aegis of Molecular Pathology Association of India. Her journey as a teacher is a reflection of her philosophy of learning, unlearning and relearning. She is MD pathology by basic training with specialization in oncopathology. As a pathologist she has been developed Indian network of uropathology. She has done her PhD under renowned scholar Dr BC Das, masters in Molecular Oncology from Centro de Estudios Biosanitarios Spain and FRCpath Molecular Pathology from Royal College United Kingdom.
