This workshop is designed to give both the fundamental understanding about probabilistic analysis and the ability to apply stochastic models to Civil engineering applications. Uncertainty is inherent to the process of structural and hydrologic designs. Design parameters describing the structural members and systems cannot be perfectly known, which can be explicitly described in a probabilistic sense, offering more realistic framework in Civil engineering design and analysis. The reliability methods are widely incorporated into design codes, are based on the concepts of probability theory and stochastic nature of design parameters. The topics covered in the workshop include:
The workshop also includes applications and case examples. Participants are also will perform simulation and analysis tasks.
The workshop is suitable for postgraduate and PhD students as well as faculty and researchers interested in stochastic modelling, particularly in structural engineering, water resources, hydrology and environmental areas. Basic knowledge in MATLAB programming is an advantage, but not a prerequisite.
