The use of diagnostic and therapeutic nanomedicine formulations for therapeutic and diagnostic (nanotheranostics) applications has become a recent trend in the treatment strategy. This helps to provide valuable information on drug delivery, drug efficacy and drug release, personalizing the therapeutic interventions. A variety of drug delivery vehicles have been identified for the targeted and controlled delivery of therapeutic agents in a wide range of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.
