The Department of Chemistry, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri, Kollam- a prestigious higher education institution in Kerala – in association with the Magnetic Resonance Society Kerala (MRSK) – an academic society established in 2020 for the promotion of Magnetic Resonance in Kerala – is organizing a two-day National Seminar on NMR spectroscopy. The main objective of the seminar is to provide a profound understanding of basic principles and instrumentation of NMR spectroscopy. The seminar also covers topics on acquisition, processing and analysis of NMR spectra, and the application of NMR spectroscopy on the structural elucidation of organic molecules. The targeted participants include under-graduate and post-graduate students, researchers and young faculty members of higher education and research institutions in Kerala. The seminar would be a knowledge-sharing platform that offers an excellent opportunity for the participants to interact with experts in the field of NMR spectroscopy.

The Magnetic Resonance Society Kerala was established in the year 2020 with an aim to bring together scientists in the domain of magnetic resonance. Students, teachers, researchers, scientists and any scholar who are interested in the area of magnetic resonance can enroll themselves as members of the society (yearly or life membership). In addition, Corporate Memberships are also available. Also, a few renowned scientists will be elected by the Executive Committee as Honorary Members. Further details of the Society and also the membership form can be obtained from the website http://mrs-kerala.org. The activities of the Society will be announced and circulated among the members of the society, interested parties and institutions. The registration fee for the national and international events will be considerably less for the members of the Society. MRS Kerala has its office at the Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram (IISER TVM).

The Department of Chemistry, School of Physical Sciences, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham started functioning at the Amritapuri campus in 2002. The department enjoys the status and privilege of a well flourished inevitable academic entity of this campus, which offers four major courses in advanced and applied areas of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences like Integrated M. Sc. Chemistry (5 years), M. Sc. Chemistry (2 years), M. Sc. Environmental Sciences with minor in Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics (2 years) and Ph.D. program in Chemistry, and a certificate program in Geoinformatics for Natural Resource Monitoring (5 months), handled by 15 members of faculty, who are experts in their research fields, evident from their publications and research funding, many are pioneers in their fields after long years of research experience both in India and abroad in reputed organizations.
The department also possesses a classical chemistry lab, which has been structured with a vision of transforming it into an excellent centre for research in the frontier areas of applied chemistry and allied branches. The research lab is well equipped with sophisticated equipment that helps carry out research in the various frontier and emerging areas of chemistry.
Faculty members are awarded the DST-SERB/DST-SHRI scheme with a total outlay of Rs.148 lakhs. The Department has strong collaborations with recognized institutions, industries and R&D laboratories for student projects, training, and research activities. Faculty members of our department have been publishing research articles in various peer-reviewed journals such as Nature Publishing, American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry, Elsevier, Wiley, etc.
