The Department of Mathematics, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus hosted the Kerala School of Mathematics Talent Nurture Program (KSoMTNP), the Winter School 2019 for undergraduate students in Mathematics during December 26 – 31, 2019. It is an outreach project conceived by the Kerala School Mathematics, Kozhikode, with the objective of identifying and nurturing talented students to strengthen their foundations in Mathematics to enable them evolve in to outstanding Mathematicians and Teachers. The program here was devoted to basic as well as advanced topics in the areas Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra and Real Analysis. In this program, one learns Mathematics through interactive sessions and solves problems by asking questions. Eminent Mathematicians manage and guide the program and college teachers participate as mentors and tutors. As it is a flagship program in Mathematics for those who desires to learn Mathematics, we decided to host it at Amritapuri.
From different Arts and Science colleges in Kerala, 35 selected participants by KSoM and 10 of our own undergraduate students in Mathematics participated the in the programme. We are happy and proud to report that the KSoMTNP 2019 Winter School at Amritapuri was successful and met all the objectives, primarily because the external resource persons were eminent scholars.
This program was fully supported by the “KSoM, Kozikodu which is gratefully acknowledged.
The program begins with a small traditional function with lighting the lamp by all the dignitaries present on 26-12-2019 at 9.00 am followed by chanting a prayer. There were 22 lecture sessions and discussion session every day evening 6.00p.m. to 7.30 p.m.as per the timetable given below.

The experts were available for formal and informal discussions at all times. They stayed in the campus and attended and participated fully in the discussions. Their presence and full participation were a source of inspiration for all the participants. In addition to the experts, all the participants were given food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at Anugraha mess hall near the front lobby and accommodation in the university guesthouse and hostels for the resource persons and students respectively. Provided Tea and Snacks at Room No. N123, near the classroom were the programme was conducted.
Informal feedback were taken from the participants. The technical contents were of a very high standard. The food and stay arrangements were also highly satisfactory. The general impression was a deep sense of satisfaction by all. We have, therefore, reason to feel proud to see that the workshop was quite successful, and served the intended purpose.
1. Professor(Dr.) A. J. Jayanthan
Professor A. J. Jayanthan delivered eight lectures on Abstract Algebra starting from the scratch, covered most of the undergraduate topics in that and went deeply in to some of the advanced concepts. Discussed theorems, proofs and problems in detail and conducted tutorial sessions.
2. Professor (Dr.) K. S. S. Moosath
Professor Moosath gave seven lectures in Linear Algebra starting from the basics, covered all undergraduate topics, and went deeply in to some of the advanced concepts. Discussed the theorems, proofs and problems in detail and conducted tutorial sessions.
3. Professor(Dr.) Kunhanandan
Professor Kunhanandan delivered seven lectures in Real Analysis starting from the basics and covered topics such as continuity, convergence etc. He discussed theorems and proofs in detail, solved examples, counter examples etc. Tutorial sessions were also conducted on these topics.
From morning, 9.00 a.m. to evening 4.45 p.m. were the scheduled classes and all resource persons and supporting faculty were there in all sessions and lot of interactions among the students and faculty were went off. In addition to that everyday 6.00pm to 7.30 p.m., we organized discussions sessions for the students and all resource persons and supporting faculty were present for the discussions.
