G. Padmanabhan joined UNDP in 1992 and has been handling Disaster Management portfolio of UNDP-India since 1995. He took early retirement in December 2017 as the head of the disaster management portfolio.
He played a pivotal role in conceptualising and managing most of the DRR initiatives of UNDP India. As part his job, he provided advice to Governments of countries in the Asia region and worked for one year in Iraq as Assistant Director of a rehabilitation project of UNDP. He worked very closely with MHA, NDMA, and many state Governments.
Before joining UNDP, he was involved in research activities in the field of Transportation, Urban Development and Energy at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He also worked for 2 years as a consultant to the Government of India.
He is involved with NGOs, national and international academic institutions as Advisor, and works as a senior consultant on Disaster Risk Reduction.
