Gokulashtami,also known as Sri Krishna Jayanthi is celebrated at Amrita Coimbatore campus. Traditional rituals like Uriyadi and pole-climbing were organized with jubilant student participation. This year,celebrations on campus began early.Sahasranama Archana was followed by Nagara Sankeerthana wherein a group of students and faculty across campus singing Lord Krishna’s glory. Later, at 8:40 am, richly decorated floats, grandly marched past, depicting various stages from the life of Sri Krishna. Accompanied by little girls and boys dressed as Krishnas and Gopikas, the floats made their way through the campus, stopping at various points, where students sang and danced. As always Swamiji distributed “Prasadam” for entire Amritians.
Later students participated in various competitions like dance, music, skit, quiz, elocution, painting and Rangoli, all on the theme of Sri Krishna. In the early afternoon, the students, faculty and entire Amrita fraternity stand in a spellbound while watching the Uriyadi and Pole-climbing. Prize distribution happened in the evening. The celebrations continued with late evening bhajans by each department faculty, students and ashram inmates.
