The main objective of the symposium was to facilitate broader awareness and appreciation of the increasing importance of the analytics domain and to provide a platform for industry participants and academicians to share their experiences and emerging ideas on innovative applications of analytics in key sectors.

Prof. Sunanda Muralidharan, Chairperson, Department of Management, Kochi, delivered the welcome address. She spoke about the advent of ASTHRA as a B-fest in 2012 and its gradual transformation into an International Symposium. She also told how the student driven initiative motivated the students to make it a spectacular event.

Sampujya Swamiji Purnamritananda Puri, General Secretary, Mata Amritanandamayi Math, rendered the benedictory address. In his address, Swamiji highlighted the growing importance of analytics in everyday life. He also highlighted the importance of synchronisation of spiritual wisdom with our day to day practices.

Mr. Jose Maliakal, Associate Partner, IBM, delivered the Inaugural Address. In his address, he discussed how analytics has become an inevitable part of life. He discussed the topic, “Smarter Data Insights with Machine Learning and Cognitive Systems”.  This was followed by the Introduction to the theme by Mr. Sumit S. Ashok,President, Asthra Sixth Edition.

The key speakers of the technical sessions were: Mr. Sasi P.M, Associate Director,C-DAC, Trivandrum; Mr. Rakesh Pillai, Principal Data Scientist, Visual IQ; Dr. Prasad Potluri, Prof. of Robotics and Textile composite and Director of research at Northwest Composites Centre, Manchester; Dr. K. P. Soman, Head, Centre for Excellence in Computational Engineering and Networking(CEN), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham; Dr. Arthur Wilkinson, Senior Lecturer at School of Materials, University of Manchester.

Mr. Sasi P.M, Associate Director, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), talked about “Big Data Analytics in Healthcare” and about the latest developments in the field of healthcare with the involvement of analytics.

Mr. Rakesh Pillai, Principal Data Scientist, Visual IQ, spoke on the topic, “Analytics for Risk Management”, featuring a credit card industry perspective. The most frequently used cash transaction option, credit cards, are using analytics to store information of the customers and using it when required.

Dr. Prasad Potluri, Prof. of Robotics and Textile composite and Director of research at Northwest Composites Centre, Manchester, delivered his talk on, “Service Robotics”. Dr. Potluri explained how robotics has been coupled with analytics to interact with the human world.

Dr. K. P. Soman, Head, Centre for Excellence in Computational Engineering and Networking (CEN), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, spoke on the topic of “Deep Learning.” Deep Learning, also known as deep structured learning, is characterised as a class of machine learning algorithms and the use of it in creating better technologies like natural language processing models and customer relationship management models.

Dr. Arthur Wilkinson, Senior Lecturer at School of Materials, University of Manchester, gave a talk on, “Recent Developments in Nanotechnology”, where he spoke about the different uses of grapheme as a material and how it was being used as a strong material for many purposes. This was followed by rapporteuring by Dr. Vivek Menon, Associate Professor, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham MBA Programme.

In his valedictory speech, Prof. Shantikumar Nair, Dean of Research, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Director of Amrita Center for Nanosciences and Molecular Medicine, spoke on the relevance of the theme chosen for the symposium, ‘Analytics’, and lauded the students for always taking up themes which were trending.Certificates were distributed to the winners of CHAKRAVYUH (B-Plan Competition).  The attendees at the symposium shared that they found the presentions to be very effective in sharing knowledge on the field on analytics and it’s various uses in the present world.
