Abstract

Translating Scientific and Evidence-Based Research into
Policy Briefs (Session I & Session II)

Writing a policy brief is different from writing for an academic journal. For research to influence policy, it is critical that research products reach the appropriate “Target Audience”. How “evidence is discussed, made sense of, negotiated and communicated” and “in what format” will determine how effectively it can influence policy decisions. This session will deal with the background on policy briefs and how to draft effective policy briefs that can influence policymaking related to a particular theme or sector. This session will also share some examples from the United Nations in selected thematic areas that may be of interest to the participants. It is envisaged that the presentations on this topic will enhance the overall understanding of participants on how to draft policy briefs in their own areas of expertise.
